Ernie Blake and his family hosted former President Jimmy Carter and his family for dinner during a vacation at Taos Ski Valley in 1986, the same year the Carter Center was dedicated in Atlanta, Georgia. Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the U.S., died Dec. 29 at age 100. The Carters stayed at the Rio Hondo Condominiums, Mickey Blake recalled fondly. "I remember that because I had to connect our security guys with the Secret Service," Blake said. "Our guys did not have submachine guns."
