29th annual Ridge-A-Thon
This weekend (Feb. 21–22), Taos Ski Valley is hosting the Ben Myers Ridge-A-Thon, a charity event that benefits Taos Community Foundation's Emergency Medicines Fund, which funds area grants to support health and basic needs across Taos and western Colfax counties.
The event is named after Ben “Ben Air” Myers, a local extreme skier who was diagnosed of cancer at age 26. His friends and family created the event to raise money for Myer’s insurmountable medical bills.
Over 28 years, Last year, the Ridge-A-Thon has raised over a million dollars, with $61,000 raised last year along. With that money, the Taos Community Foundation has been able to provide grants to nonprofits that provided the community access to medical advocacy and services.
Kit Carson Electric donates $1K to Taos Hockey
On Thursday (Feb. 13), the Taos Youth Hockey League received a $1,000 donation from Kit Carson Electric Cooperative at the company’s office at Cruz Alta Road.
“We donate to many different organizations and sports,” Kit Carson representative Michael Santistevan said. “We want to be there for our community, and we want to help them achieve whatever goal or mission that they are trying to accomplish. These are our people. These are our families, our friends and our kids. That’s the main goal. It’s the minimum amount but it will help whether it’s for travel or food.”
