SUMMARY OF STRATEGY

We need a core group of design-conscious companies, associations and law firms to each step up to the plate with a $5,000 contribution as a charter member of the Design Registration League.  Individual members  (e.g., designers, academics, lawyers, etc.)  may join for $500.

A short summary of our strategy is:

          1.       Recruit a core group of corporate, association, law firm and individual members to provide seed money to begin the considerable work of the DRL.  During the summer of 2007, the DRL will hire a researcher to study past (failed) legislation, identify past and potential proponents and opponents, strategize to anticipate difficulties, prepare a formal budget, constitute the DRL as a legal entity, begin to recruit long term members, interview lobbyists, and plan an initial draft of legislation.

          2.       Once the DRL is up and running, we will set up a formal office, hire a staff, identify and recruit outside experts  (e.g., international trade, economists, legal experts, designers, statisticians, etc.), meet with the legal staff of the House and Senate Judiciary Committees regarding a sui generis design registration bill, draft legislation that has best chance of being introduced in Congress, and get the bill passed.
